Report on the training and capacity building of 50 youth leaders in Kalemie City, Tanganyika Province
ACTIVITY REPORT ON CAPACITY BUILDING FOR YOUNG LEADERS IN THE CITY OF KALEMIE, TANGANYIKA PROVINCE, DRC THROUGH FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM CHILDREN’S RIGHTS INNOVATION FUND

The city of Kalemie, the capital of Tanganyika Province, is home to a large and cosmopolitan population. It is estimated to have over 600,000 inhabitants from various other provinces of the DRC. However, the city lacks almost everything in terms of basic infrastructure and services. Roads are impassable, the railway is deadly, there is a lack of water and electricity, medical care is nonexistent, and education is only accessible to the wealthy. The city and its surrounding areas are heavily commercialized thanks to mining and fishing on Lake Tanganyika, which is abundant in fish.
Due to the growing population, the economy based on fishing and artisanal mining is becoming more of a problem than a benefit. A large portion of the population is unemployed, and young people are the most affected. Yet the province has several economic opportunities, such as livestock farming, agriculture, mining, modernized fishing, industry, and other forms of investment.
Thus, in order to develop a human resource capable of providing solutions to the problems of the Community through innovations, inventions and initiatives, we initiated this training session for 50 Young Leaders including refugees, Internally Displaced Persons, and young people in host communities.
