Summery of the Community awareness against Ebola at Bembey Secondary School in Bunia City
Report of Community awareness against Ebola in Bunia City, Ituri Province, the Democratic Republic of Congo

With small financial contribution from our partners, we are fully engaged and facing more realities which we did not know before. We have now observed that despite assumptions that all people in Bunia City were covered by the awareness campaigns against Ebola, we have observed that this is not accurate. Many parts which have reported cases of Ebola remain uncovered by campaigns and people remain highly ignorant.

In Bembey neighborhood, where we held our activities on Friday 16th October 2026, this was the very first time for many people to get accurate information about Ebola and ask their questions. This time we focused on school children who are not generally covered yet they have also been victims of Ebola and Bunia has recorded school children who have lost their lives.
Target:

School Children at Bembey Secondary School in the same area, located in Shari Division, City of Bunia.
Activities before
Our volunteers were deployed on ground to bench mark and come up with the result and this way they focused on this particular school because of high number of students, yet it lacks materials and information in order to prevent Ebola.
Buying of the materials

We observed that currently, it is so important to demonstrate to people what they should do, we then collected the posters, we bought Baskets for water and Soap and also bought the stands for all the Baskets. The Baskets and all the materials remained in the school for the students to use with hope that this will encourage the school management to do more in order to keep safe the children.
The number of those who attended are as following:
Young boys: 85
Young girls: 120

Total: 205
Adults
Men: 17
Women:16
Total: 33
In total 238 people both school children, the teaching body and some people near to school benefited directly from these awareness session which took two hours. And was conducted by our 10 young girls, one medical officer and two technical persons.

Challenges
Lack of accurate information among the audience on issues about Ebola which raised so many questions and which requires more time to inform the population,
The teaching and health materials we brought such as Baskets, soap were not enough for the school,
Many children are from very poor families which have challenges to acquire a soap every time,
In this place our banner and the T-Ship were not used because the team was informed not to use them because some people were still negative towards Campaigns against Ebola,
Conclusion
We thank our partners for the financial support and continue calling upon more partners to get involved in order to save lives. Remember each support saves a life against Ebola.
